Andrea Lynne Balliette

Balliette Andrea Lynne Balliette has been certified in Authentic Pilates(TM) since 1998. Upon completing her training, she was hired as the first full-time Pilates instructor in the dance department at Goucher College, Maryland, where she remained for three years. Several of the Goucher dance students she trained during that time chose to become certified Pilates instructors themselves. Lynne has taught Pilates to dancers of all levels ranging from the professional to the junior high school level. She has guest taught for summer dance and theater programs and university dance departments. She has appeared on Baltimore area television news programs and in the popular Living Arts Pilates Intermediate Mat With Ana Cabán DVD demonstrating Pilates. In addition to her Pilates training, Lynne holds an MFA degree in dance from the University of Michigan and has studied anatomy for dance with Irene Dowd and Chrystelle Bond. Her personal experience with Pilates after years of dance training has inspired her to teach this method to dancers as a means of prolonging and furthering their well-being in the field.

Class Description
This class teaches the Joseph H. Pilates method of conditioning, which he called contrology. This class will show why Pilates has attracted over the years such dance legends as George Balanchine, Martha Graham, Hanya Holm, Natalia Makarova, Jerome Robbins, Ruth St. Denis & Ted Shawn. This class will emphasize the Pilates Mat work. Through specific, controlled movements with an emphasis on body alignment, deep abdominal strength and trunk stabilization, Pilates will help you to improve your alignment, strengthen and elongate your muscles, and deepen your mind-body connection, resulting in the finely-tuned instrument that you've always wanted and never knew you could have.
