Phoebe Kelly

miller Phoebe Kelly received her BFA in modern dance from University of the Arts in Philadelphia. There she studied technique, anatomy, kinesiology, pedagogy, and Pilates. Her studies in Pilates continued in New York where she trained with well known instructor, Linda Farrell, for four years. She then went on to earn her certification in 2002 from the Kane School of Core Integration.

You can find Phoebe teaching Pilates Mat classes around the city; dance studios, gyms, yoga centers and corporate classes. Most notably she has brought traditional Pilates classes to the students of the Body Strength Center on the Upper West Side.

In addition to her teaching Pilates, Phoebe has been teaching dance for the past six years. She has guest taught at universities and wellness centers along the East coast, as well as teaching on faculty at the Rock School of the Pennsylvania Ballet and Peridance.

Class Description- Pilates
Phoebe teaches the basic concepts of core strength and proper alignment that Joseph Pilates introduced to the dance community nearly 80 years ago. She will also teach how to apply these lessons in dance technique classes. She teaches a better understanding of human bodies in order to avoid injury or perhaps learn how to rehabilitate from injuries much quicker. It is important that dancers continue the training of Pilates, so that they can continue to work and grow in the field of movement they love so much.

Class Description- Jazz
The goal of Phoebe's class is to bring technique, performance presence, the ability to learn combinations of movement to music, and to discover the joy of dance. She focuses on the importance of core strength and alignment during the warm-up. Then she teaches students how to experience the freedom of moving through space with short across the floor combinations. At the end she teaches a center combination where students apply their technical skills and stage presence performing a variety of jazz styles to great selections of music.

It is important that every student leave class with a better understanding of the body and self confidence.
