Pre-Professional Dance Program

Placement week for AY 2011/2012: May 2nd-8th. Please contact Lizzy Belton to schedule an audition class at (212) 874-3678.

The Pre-Professional Program is a curriculum-based program designed for the dedicated dance student. Students are placed in one of four divisions based on age, each with its own set of core classes and minimum class requirements.

Preparatory (ages 6-10)
Primary (ages 10-13)
Intermediate (ages 11-15)
Advanced (ages 14-18)

All Pre-Professional students are required to take a minimum number of ballet classes per week and are encouraged to explore other disciplines. The diverse curriculum offers intensive training for the aspiring ballet dancer, as well as for dancers committed to musical theater studies. Students must comply with course requirements specific to each level. Attendance in all Pre-Professional classes is required.

As part of the Pre-Professional program, students participate in various performances including the annual year-end showcase, in-house performances at Steps on Broadway’s Studio Theater and community concerts throughout the city.

Audition/Placement Week is typically held the first week in May. Both current and new applicants are evaluated and placement determined for the following academic year. Applicants not able to attend that week may schedule an audition during the spring or summer.
