This brand new class focuses purely on jazz technique and maintenance. Rather than a performance-based theater/jazz class, this class will center around technique fundamentals and exercises to strengthen your speed, stamina, musicality, movement quality and use of dynamics. Students can expect a thorough 40-minute warm-up each class that safely works both strength and flexibility and targets muscle groups specifically used in jazz dance. It is geared toward both students and working professionals.
Come sweat, push your boundaries, celebrate successes and failures alike, and most importantly DANCE in a safe, supportive environment.
Students can expect a warm up in center that utilizes ballet technique through a classic jazz filter. It is aerobic and focuses on solidifying a proper foundation as they move through many classic jazz exercises to strengthen, stretch and prepare the body for dancing.
The combination will challenge students to think carefully about musicality while they develop skills to hit unexpected lines and accents. We will explore theatricality, drama, and style through movement with contrasting dances each week.
