Donna Salgado loves dance, music, creativity, and learning. She has devoted her life to discovering where those interests intersect.
At a young age she became engrossed with her classical ballet studies, training with Tatjana Akinafieva-Smith and Elena Manakhova. Under their guidance she performed in many of the classic works of ballet. She continued her training at intensive programs under the American Ballet Theatre, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, NYSSSA Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, and Alonzo King's Lines Ballet.
She furthered her education with a BFA in Dance Performance from Towson University and an MFA in Dance Performance and Teaching from Purchase College, SUNY. During her schooling she performed the choreographies of George Balanchine, Geoffrey Holder, Luca Veggetti, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Alexandre Proia, and Edwaard Liang.
Her concert dance experience includes performing with the Connecticut Ballet, Eglevsky Ballet, Baltimore Ballet, Deborah Lohse's ad Hoc Ballet, and David Fernandez's Some Dance Company. Her commercial dance credits include performing in NYFW for Moncler Brand and performing in a runway ballet for Ted Gibson Beauty at the International Beauty Show Expo. She has also performed in visual artist Jen Denike's ballerina installation, Scrying. She has collaborated with Grammy Award Winning Artist MYA.
Her choreography has been presented by the 92nd Street Y, DanceNOW, Latin Choreographers Festival, Kat Wildish, the CURRENT SESSIONS, Brooklyn Ballet, and the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival (in 2011 and 2012).
In 2010, she founded CONTINUUM Contemporary/Ballet, a dance company committed to creating work that plays in the concert dance spectrum. CONTINUUM is comprised of a close-knit group of New York City dance artists united by their classical training and their contemporary artistic voices.
She recently co-authored the children's book Crafterina with her sister, Vanessa Salgado.
She is on faculty at The School at Steps and the Joffrey Ballet School.
