Our Commitment

“The Health and Wellness Program here at The School at Steps will broaden the dance education of our students to include resources and guidance on issues including injury prevention and recovery, physical therapy, nutrition, emotional wellness, and other supplemental services. Although the issue of negative body image is not limited to dancers, dance training can place enormous pressure on young students to achieve the “perfect” body. Young dancers often overlook the benefits of good nutrition on dance training in their attempt to reach an unattainable ideal for their individual body type.”
-Kate Thomas, Director, The School at Steps

“Someone once said to me that dancers work as hard as policeman; always alert, always tense. But you see, policeman do not have to be beautiful at the same time!”

George Balanchine (1904-1983)
