Karina Elver was born in 1962 in Copenhagen. She began to dance at the age of three at Andersen & Jensens Danseinstitut on Vesterbro and was accepted as a student at the Royal Danish Ballet School at the age of nine. In 1978 she became an apprentice at The Royal Danish Ballet and after two years was promoted to ballet dancer at The Royal Danish Ballet. During her time at The Royal Danish Ballet, she danced many solo parts in several famous ballets by August Bournonville, Balanchine, Alvin Ailey and many more. In 1992 she started to create her own choreography and in 2003, she left the Royal Danish Ballet to work as a freelance teacher, choreographer and Bournonville specialist. She founded the Karina Elvers Theatre & Ballet School in Gentofte, north of Copenhagen.
